Miners Solving for Tomorrow Research Conference: Presenters

Showcasing the research efforts of our undergraduate and graduate students to our campus and community. All are welcome to attend.

Students presenting at conferences are important to any student’s professional development and career advancement. This conference provides networking opportunities to interact with other students, faculty and members of industry. Equally important are the wealth of learning opportunities available to students at the conference.

  • Student who will be presenting at the conference may present as an individual researcher or as a research team of no more than 4 individuals.
    • If you are presenting  as a research team please select one team member to serve as the primary contact. The primary contact will register the team and serve as the sole contact for the team.
    • It is the responsibility of the primary contact to forward all conference related email communications to each team member.
  • Students may present in an oral presentation format or a poster presentation format.
  • Regardless of format each presentation will require:
    • An abstract of no more than 150 words.
    • A brief biography of each student of no more than 150 words.

Additional requirements and due dates are outlined below.  

Prizes will be awarded to students for the following:

  • Best Undergraduate Poster ($300)
  • Best Undergraduate Oral Presentation ($300)
  • Best Graduate Poster ($300)
  • Best Graduate Oral Presentation ($300)
  • Awards will be announced on Friday, April 4 during the program

Instructions for Student Presenters

All researches and research teams must have their materials reviewed by the Writing and Communications Center prior to submission. Unless reviewed and approved by your advisor.

Abstract - Due March 21, 2025

  • All research presentations require a descriptive abstract to complete the conference registration.
  • Abstracts should be a minimum of 75 words and no more than 150 words. Please complete this fillable abstract template prior to submission. 
  • Abstracts must be submitted by the individual researcher or the primary contact for team projects no later than March 21, 2025

Biography - Due March 21, 2025

  • All students including research team members are required to provide a brief biography.
  • The Biography should be a minimum of 75 word and no more than 150 words. Please complete this fillable biography template prior to submission. 
  • Biographies must be submitted by the individual researcher or the primary contact for team projects no later than March 21, 2025.

Oral Presentation - Due March 21, 2025

  • Submit your abstract by March 21, 2025
  • Submit biographies by March 21, 2025
  • Oral presentations consist of two components:
    • A slide deck which will be used during the presentation.
    • A research paper.
  • The presentation must be uploaded by the individual researcher or the primary contact for team projects in pdf format by March 24, 2024.
  • The research paper must be uploaded by the individual researcher or the primary contact for team projects in pdf by March 24, 2025.
  • Each research project will have a 15 minute time slot for the oral presentation.
    • 10 minutes for the presentation.
    • 5 minutes for questions and discussion.
    • Audio-visual equipment (including laptop, microphone, and projector) will be provided.
  • The research paper must conform to specified guidelines.

Poster Presentation - Due March 21, 2025

  • Submit your abstract by March 21, 2025.
  • Submit biographies by March 21, 2025.
  • The poster must be uploaded by the individual researcher or the primary contact for team projects in pdf format by March 24, 2025
  • The poster must be printed and mounted by the conference date. Printing options are available in the poster guidelines.

  • The poster must be present at the conference for the conference duration.
  • A student must be present at the poster location during a pre-scheduled judging session of no more than 1 hour.
    • The student should be prepared to give a brief presentation of the research. (5 minutes or less)
    • The student should be able to answer questions from the judges or conference attendees.
