Notary Services

Explanations of the notary services provided at the library.

Introduction

A notary public is a public official appointed by the Missouri state government to serve as an impartial witness to the signing of important documents. Notaries verify the identity of the signer, ensure they are signing willingly and understand the document, and then apply their official seal and signature. This process helps prevent fraud and ensures the document's integrity.

Common notarial acts include acknowledgments, jurats, and certified copies.  Notaries are often needed for documents such as:

  • property deeds
  • wills
  • powers of attorney
  • affidavits
  • passport and vis renewals
  • absentee ballots, and more.

The library provides notary services between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm Monday - Friday. There is no charge for notary services for university affiliated students, faculty, and staff.

Appointments are recommended if you wish to secure a guaranteed time slot. Walk-ins are welcome, but a notary may not be available.
