Minimum Wage Questions

You may be aware that the minimum wage has increased again. Entities of the state government are exempt form following the minimum wage. Today it was announced that:

• For staff only the minimum wage will be increased by July 2021.
• The minimum wage can be increased for student employees, but any increase must go through an HR review and a Finance review. Additionally, money must be in the library budget to cover any increase. At this time we do not have the money to increase the student hourly rate. 

I do not know if work study will increase their hourly rate. If they do, this will mean that work study hours will be used up even faster. In the past once a work study student ran out of hours we have transferred them to our budget.  We will try to continue this practice, however this may result in an hourly rate decrease when they are transferred.  

Obviously, this solution is far from ideal. I will keep you updated if circumstances change.
