Lost Item Policy

  • All items have a standard replacement fee plus a $25 processing fee, unless otherwise stated.
  • Replacement fees vary by item type and reflect the actual cost to replace the item.
  • Processing fees are non-refundable.

Items are considered lost after a set number of days overdue:

  • Most items: 2 days after the due date
  • Certain keys/equipment: 1 day after the due date

Once an item is marked lost, your account will be billed the replacement fee and processing charge. If the item is returned or renewed after being billed, the replacement fee may be waived or reduced, but overdue fines will still apply, up to the maximum listed. The $25 processing fee remains on your account.

If the item is returned more than 6 months after being marked lost, no fee will be waived and no refunds will be issued.

For questions about fines or billing, please email: lib-circ@mst.edu

The library reserves the right to forward unpaid invoices to the university's cashier's office, which may impact your ability to register for classes or graduate.

How to Pay Fees

  • Fines can be paid at the library service desk during open hours or at online at: https://library.mst.edu/paymybill/
  • All outstanding fees must be cleared before borrowing additional items. Your account will be blocked when fines owed reach $10.
  • Avoid fines by:
    • Checking loan periods before leaving the library.
    • Return or renew items on time.
    • If you lose or damage an item, notify the library immediately - early notice may reduce replacement costs.

Failure to Pay

  • $10 in fines results in having your library account blocked.
  • $20 in fines results in having your Joe'SS account blocked.
  • Unpaid library fines at the time of graduation will result in the withholding of your diploma and transcript.
