The University Libraries has a transformative publishing agreement with Springer Nature. This agreement is made possible through the Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA), a consortium that the UM System Libraries is a member of. Under the agreement, primary / corresponding active faculty and staff publishing in Springer Nature hybrid journals will be able to publish up to 41 articles per year with no article processing charge (APC) fees.

To assist faculty & staff with publishing efforts, the University Libraries Subvention Program was created to cover article processing charges (APC) or book publishing charges (BPC) with contributed funds from each CEC, CASE, University Libraries, and the Offices of the Provost and Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation.
